Is There Any Electrical Work I Can Do on My Own?

If the work doesn’t involve your home’s main electrical systems, an electrician isn’t always necessary. It’s safe for many homeowners to install their own theater system or doorbell, for instance. For work that requires tapping into your main box or running wires behind the wall, you’ll need to call a local electrician.

When Should I Call an Electrican?

If your breaker keeps tripping, lights flicker, or you smell burning from an electrical outlet, you need to call an electrician right away. Though you might think it’s okay to go without a broken outlet, there could be a spark behind the wall just waiting to start a fire.

Is Knob and Tube Wiring Okay?

Homes built prior to 1945 have what’s called knob and tube wiring. Though state-of-the-art at the time, this electrical system has its issues. The soldering used is not compatible with insulation and is not safe for use with modern appliances. If your home still uses this type of wiring, we suggest giving our Perris electricians a call at (951) 480-4810.

Can You Tell Me Exactly How Much My Electrical Work Will Cost?

During our many years of providing electrical service, we’ve found most customers prefer an accurate estimate to a quick one. Until we see the inside of your walls, we cannot provide an accurate quote. That’s why all pricing is not provided until we have taken a first-hand look at the issue. To get scheduled for an estimate, give (951) 480-4810 a call.

What is Whole Home Surge Protection?

If lightning struck your home tomorrow, how much of a loss in electronics would you suffer? $1000? $4000? While outlet-based surge protectors can help lessen the damage, they’re unsightly and easily overloaded. A whole house surge protector is installed at your panel and shuts off all equipment in your home during a power surge. For a quote on installing one in Riverside or Corona, call (951) 480-4810.

What are Some Ways I Can Save Energy?

The total of your electric bill depends on a number of factors including where, how much, and how often you use it. The easiest way to cut your electrical bills is to shut lights and electronics off when not in use. If you’re willing to invest a little bit of money, consider replacing your incandescent bulbs with CFLs or LEDs. Swapping out old appliances—including HVAC equipment—for something more efficient can help, too. Give us a call at (951) 480-4810 to schedule an energy usage consultation. What’s a GFCI Outlet?

A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is an outlet that prevents water borne electrical shock. This simple device senses when power is going where it shouldn’t and immediately shuts it off. This increased safety is why GFCIs in kitchens, laundry rooms, outdoor areas, and bathrooms are commonly required by code. To ensure they operate as intended, test the outlet once a month.

What Do I Do if My Home Has a Brown Out?

A brown out is caused by an overall drop in system voltage. Its trademark is a dimming of all lights and electrical devices. If one of these happens, shut off the main power to your home. The lowered voltage can cause severe damage to major appliances.

Why Do My Lights Flicker?

Flickering lights indicate anything from a ghost to a defective lightbulb or voltage issue. It can also be a sign that you need to upgrade your main electrical panel. If left to flicker too long, the excess heat produced can spark a fire. To uncover the true source of the issue, call (951) 480-4810 to schedule a visit with one of our electricians.

What’s the Difference Between a Two-pronged Plug and a Three-pronged Plug?

The third prong on a plug is used to ground the device. Two-prong receptacles are not as well grounded and are a risk for electrical shock. When possible, we recommend going with a three-prong configuration for most devices.
